Due to what seemed to be a groin injury, Christian Kirk was forced to leave the field for the Jaguars versus the Bengals. Trevor Lawrence completed a deep pass on Jacksonville’s opening offensive play. Although he was able to snag it, the wide receiver injured himself in the process.
The ball was not thrown correctly, so he had to reposition himself. But he appears to have hurt himself, either from the fall or the contortion. Though he was in great discomfort, he was able to walk back to the locker room on his own and need assistance. Finally, he is ruled out.
Reports suggesting Christian Kirk’s injury may be in the “groin area”
On social media, there was conjecture that the injury was to the groyne, although it may have more to do with a bruising testicle. There did not appear to be much twisting or torsion in the lower body. He also did not have his foot placed when he fell. Thus, some believe that Christian Kirk has had a far more severe harm, even though it may not be irreversible.
There are others besides Christian Kirk who visit the Jaguars’ locker room.
The Jaguars had a respectable start. Travis Etienne scored their first touchdown of the game. They even forced the Bengals to give up a tackle for a loss of yards, which increased the distance of their field goal to nearly 55 yards and caused Evan McPherson to miss.
However, in addition to losing Christian Kirk on offence, they also lost cornerback Tre Herndon to injury. Herndon had to enter the locker room and follow the concussion protocol before being ruled out.
Safety Andre Cisco was down for a while before rising later in the second quarter. For Jacksonville, the number of injuries began to mount.
They had excellent field position following the missed field goal, but Trevor Lawrence was unable to move the chains, leading to a three-and-out. On the other side, Joe Mixon’s rushing score brought the Cincinnati Bengals across the field to tie the game.
Such injuries can frequently make the difference in the postseason, especially for the Jaguars, who want to win their division and advance further in the playoffs than they did the previous season, when they reached the Divisional Round. They will be hoping that these health problems that Christian Kirk and others are experiencing don’t continue past this game.
To show how an injury can completely alter the course of a season, one need only look at the Bengals, who are their opponents today and are playing without Joe Burrow, who is gone for the year.
