A senior official in Mayor Michelle Wu’s administration apologized after inadvertently sending an email invitation for an “electeds of color” holiday party to all Boston City Council members.
Denise DosSantos, Wu’s Director of City Council Relations, initially invited members to the event at the Parkman House but quickly followed up with an apology for the unintentional message.
Mayor Wu explained that the group has a longstanding presence, celebrating various connections, identities, cultures, and heritage in the city. She emphasized the city’s commitment to embracing everyone’s identity and fostering supportive spaces and communities. Mayor Wu clarified that the email error was an honest mistake and not an attempt to create division within the city council.
Despite the mishap, Mayor Wu aims to promote unity, and the “Electeds of Color” group, which meets regularly, was asked to host the holiday party this year. When contacted, several uninvited city councilors chose not to comment, with outgoing Councilor Frank Baker stating he was not offended according to the Boston Herald.
